Jeffrey David Stewart
[Danielle] How did I meet Jeff? Well, that isn’t really an interesting question. Or, rather, the answer isn’t interesting. We met in Eric’s dorm room where Jeff used to sleep most nights. See? Told you it wasn’t very interesting.
The interesting story is the story of how we actually got together, and that story begins about a year after we first met. In the fall semester of 2000, I was living in Atlanta for my co-op job. I joined a weekly D&D game with the boys (yes, this is a tale of geek love). Jeff was the guy who would walk me to my car so that I wouldn’t be walking around the Georgia Tech campus late at night. Towards the end of November, seemingly out of the blue, I got a message from Eric asking me, “If Jeff asked you out on a date, would you go?” I wasn’t expecting the question, but I said yes. I was later to find out that this was Eric’s idea of “discreetly” finding out whether or not I would be interested. Way to go, Eric! =)
So, in early December, Jeff and I went on our first “date”. The word is in quotation marks because Jeff didn’t know that I knew it was a date, and thus wasn’t treating it exactly like a date. We went to see Charlie’s Angels and had dinner at Steak and Shake. Then, we went back to the dorm and hung out with some of the guys. Before I left that night, for all you nosy people, yes, we shared our first kiss.
We hung out a couple more times before and around Christmas, but I had just gone through a pretty bad breakup in early November and I was moving back to Macon for the spring semester, so it didn’t look like things were going to go anywhere at the time.
Then, the summer came and it was time for me to make my semesterly move and end up back in Atlanta for work. Early on in the summer, Mike, Jeff, and I got into the habit of having dinner – not once a week or twice a week, but pretty much every night. It was either at Mike’s, my place, or out somewhere. Jeff and I had pretty much got it into our heads that the other was no longer interested, so neither of us were really pushing for a romantic relationship, but we were hanging out all the time. I’m told that, during a camping trip that summer, everyone could tell that sparks were flying – everyone but us, that is.
On July 18 th that year, for some reason that I cannot remember, Mike couldn’t go to dinner, so Jeff and I went by ourselves. We ended up back at my place watching TV and I managed to get a backrub out of the deal. He said something about needing to get home and study, and I turned my head to say goodbye, and he kissed me. We’ve been together ever since.
